Mel's blog

It's time to lead by example....I do believe....

I abused my body so much this weekend that I think I have to make a few changes.

Changes under way.....

Steve and I went over the new progamming for the site and I think we're back on track. Once again, it's just like most of my clients. We started

The old legs have still got a decent 5K in them....

I’m not sure what the best part of Saturday mornings run was. I’m pleased that I managed to maintain a 7:30 pace for the whole way and finish the 5K in a few seconds over 23 minutes. I was very proud of my client Ellen who came in second in her age category with a time just under 40 minutes – not too shabby for someone who hadn’t run in a race for close to 30 years. And I was ecstatic about Sherry coming out with Ellen for a nice easy Saturday morning jog that barely made her break into a sweat – but was as fast as her first 5K last year! That’s so exciting for me….

missed another day....oops...

I've got 2 minutes while my sandwich bread is in the toaster!! Because it's mid afternoon and I've trained 5 regulars and a newbie and am waiting for Steve to come over and discuss the updates to the site. And I've got to be back at the gym to work out with my 3:30 client before I train my last 2 victims of the day!

In the good old days it might have been a moral dillema.....today?

I was hired by a division of Alcoa to talk to about 25 engineering type guys about exercise and nutrition. To make it worthwhile going over to Knoxville I arranged to stay one night and two days so that I could personally train anyone who was interested. My main contact was Gary and was absolutely incredible in organizing and arranging things for me. And a highlight was going to his going away 'roast' by all of his colleagues. When you're with a guy who's retiring after 30 some years with a company it makes you think, One - he looks so much younger than retiring age. Two - that's a trait that is going the way of the buffalo. Working for one company!!

Ahead of schedule.....no way....

I'm actually sitting down and typing on Monday morning! And it's because I was in bed relatively early and don't have my first 'victim' until ten o'clock. So one has to admit that I really don't have any excuse not to sit and compose. Actually, I do. I have a to-do list as long as my arm. And would be quite content to get started on almost any of the items on it. But that really wouldn't be what I NEED to do. It would be what I WANT to do. Which is the premise of today's blog.

I'm back....but it's short and sweet...

It's Sunday afternoon and it's almost time for me to head to the beach and enjoy what's left of the day because this week is going to be my version of March Madness - I think. We've

I'm dying on the vine....

Actually I'm just being a big sissy.....or as we say back home 'a big girl's blouse'. Not quite sure where that came from. Honestly though, I'm extremely tired but find myself happy and content about my tiredness. It's a lot different feeling tired when the things that are making you that way have some substance to them. And that how I am right now. I'm working hard at so many things. And one in particular is back firing on me. People come coming up to me at the gym and asking if I'll train them!

Lots of weather we've been having lately....

To quote the late great Jerry Garcia....what a long strange trip it's been......and that refers to this weekends events that occured in the frozen tundra of the north east. Lisa and I were up in Reading Pa. for her cousin's wedding. And I don't think the temperature broke out of the 30'ies. As they say back home, it was cold enough to freeze a monkey's bum!

Things are slolwy starting to make sense.....

I’m taking a brief break from the work that I have to get done for the web site. It’s been a long time coming but I think we’re finally to the point where we’re going to be able to offer people a lifeline. I know that may sound odd, but I believe it to be true. And it goes along with this sensation that I’ve had of late. Maybe my underwear is a little too tight and that’s the cause for my strangeness!!
