I'm currently up in Baltimore and believe that I may have a serious injury that is going to limit my ability to type a daily blog for a day or two....it appears as if I've either sprained or s
My entry yesterday was negative. There’s not much more I can say about it. Except to acknowledge that I was negative. And now it’s time for me to move on and turn it into a positive. Because I’d like to think that that’s something I’m able to do almost all of the time. Granted it may sometimes take a little longer than it should for me to put a positive spin on it. But I typically do.
There was a ridiculous article in the newspaper today and it really pisses me off when people write stuff like it. Basically it was a picture of a guy on an elliptical machine at his local Y. And he talks about how excited he is to get involved again in the Annual Greater Berkeley Shrinkdown. He was last year’s winner. He went from 257 to 223 pounds in 8 weeks.
I had originally planned on making observations about my aching abs. Actually I was going to spoof those telly ads for heartburn where Brett Favvrrre says “I’m on day 9 how about you?” Well I’m on day 4 and my gut muscles still feel like crap. And Marsha was absolutely hating me on Sunday. So it wasn’t just me!
I’d love to say that my ribs don’t feel like someone took a Louisville Slugger and had a few swings at the fence and connected with my abs instead. But that’s pretty much how they are – still! I’m curious to see how Marsha feels when we train tomorrow. She’d better have been in as much pain as I was.
Lisa and I were talking about health and fitness and people we know and she said that she thought I was probably one of the fittest people she’s ever known. Which I doubt she would have said if she’d known me 10 years ago. She might have thought I was one of the unhealthiest people she knew. But right now there’s a certain element of truth to her statement. I could, if I wanted to, go out and run a marathon or do a half ironman triathlon tomorrow. I’ve definitely reached a tipping point (I’m also almost done writing an article about what a tipping point is in regards to health and fitness) when it comes to exercise.
Holiday season is tough for me. I left home for good almost 30 years ago but of course I get back there a lot. And I remember when I first left England I went through a phase of going home if and when I could. So I rarely went home for Xmas. And then about 10 years ago I decided to surprise my parents and just showed up at their front door!
I’m writing this entry early in the day because who knows when I’ll get to my computer next. The season officially starts tonight with back to back Xmas parties. The first one is my company party. The second one is Lisa’s. And I’m fully aware of the fact that when it comes to beer and food I’ve absolutely zero restraint. I’m not only English, I’m from a poor mining community from the north of England where you milk anything and everything for what you can.
I certainly hope this doesn’t come across as me sounding like the Grinch but this time of year really isn’t as festive as we make it out to be. I say that as I’ve done my own informal review of the people I meet and train. And I think it’s that way for a few reasons.
